Korea’s Tidal Flats Getting UNESCO Expansion

South Korea is pushing to expand its UNESCO World Heritage tidal flats site by adding four new coastal areas. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has already recommended the expansion, which would add wetlands in Seosan, Goheung, Muan, and Yeosu. The original site was inscribed in 2021 and is celebrated for its biodiversity and ecological importance.
Why It Matters
If approved, these expanded tidal flats become must-see natural attractions for travelers, and locals gain protection for important coastal ecosystems you might visit or live near.
