Busan Seeks UNESCO Heritage Status for Korean War Sites

Busan is pushing for UNESCO World Heritage status for 11 sites tied to its role as South Korea's wartime capital during the Korean War (1950-53). For over 1,000 days, the city housed the government, presidential office, and roughly 1 million refugees while maintaining normal operations. The city plans to submit its application in September, targeting inscription by 2030.
