Korea Hosts UNESCO World Heritage Committee for First Time

South Korea is hosting the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Busan this week—a first for the country since joining the convention in 1988. President Lee Jae Myung pledged to protect global cultural heritage and promote peace during the opening ceremony. About 3,000 delegates from 196 countries are attending the 10-day event to review existing sites and consider new additions to the World Heritage List.
