Korean Composer Wins Prestigious Takemitsu Award First Time

Chung-Ang University alumnus Choi Jae-hyeok just made history as the first Korean to win the Toru Takemitsu Composition Award, one of Asia's most respected music prizes. His orchestral work 'Supernova' beat out 111 other submissions from 25 countries and was performed live at Tokyo Opera City on July 12. The win comes with 1 million yen (about $6,140) and puts Korean classical music on the international map.
