MMCA celebrates Lee Dai-won, Korea’s ‘magician of color’

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is opening a major retrospective of painter Lee Dai-won (1921-2005) this week at Deoksugung. The exhibition features about 120 oil paintings and 100 archival items spanning his 70-year career. Lee blended Korean traditional crafts like embroidery and mother-of-pearl inlay with East Asian painting techniques to create his distinctive, vibrant style.
