South Korea’s Tidal Flats Get UNESCO Expansion

UNESCO added 4 new Korean tidal flat sites to its World Heritage List on Saturday, expanding the original 2021 designation from 4 to 6 components. The new sites are in Seosan, Goheung, Muan, and Yeosu—all known for incredible biodiversity and some of the world's most productive coastal ecosystems. These getbol (Korean tidal flats) host over 2,150 species and are crucial habitats for migratory birds.
