A hilltop of silver grass

The Seoul Silver Grass Festival runs October 17–23, 2026 at Haneul Park, part of World Cup Park in Mapo-gu. Entry is free.

Haneul Park is a landfill that was capped, planted and reopened as parkland — the hill you climb is literally built on Seoul’s old rubbish, which is worth knowing while you stand on top of it. In October the eulalia grass covering the plateau dries to a pale silver and moves in the wind in a way that photographs better than it describes.

Practical

The festival adds an opening ceremony, busking on the central stage, hands-on booths and evening opening — the field lit after dark is the reason many people come late rather than early.

Getting up there is the part people underestimate: from World Cup Stadium Station it is a climb of nearly 300 steps, or you can take the park shuttle. Wear something you can walk in, and go on a clear day — the plateau is exposed, and wind is the whole point.
