Seoullight DDP 2026 Autumn — Daybreaker

The DDP facade becomes a screen for eleven nights — three media facade works (Nam June Paik, Yoo Youngkuk, Cheongguyeongeon) plus a laser show, 19:30-22:30, free. Closes Sunday 13 September, with live sets on the final three nights.

The building itself is the screen

For eleven nights the curved skin of Dongdaemun Design Plaza stops being architecture and becomes a screen. Seoullight DDP returns for its autumn edition under the theme Daybreaker — the thing that breaks the dark and opens a new light — running 19:30 to 22:30, free, no ticket and no reservation. You walk up, you look up.

Three media facade works rotate across the facade this season, built around K-Original Light: pieces drawing on Nam June Paik, the painter Yoo Youngkuk, and Cheongguyeongeon, the 18th-century anthology of Korean poetry-songs. A laser signature show runs alongside them.

Why this week matters

It closes on Sunday 13 September. The final three nights each carry a live set on top of the projection: SOULSCAPE on the 11th, HYPNOSIS THERAPY on the 12th, and SOULSCAPE again on the 13th to end the run.

There is a second thread worth pulling. Yoo Youngkuk, one of the three facade subjects, also has a full retrospective running at Seoul Museum of Art until late October — A Mountain Within Me. See his mountains at thirty metres tall on a building at night, then go stand in front of the actual canvases in daylight. Same painter, two completely different scales.

Getting there

Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station (Lines 2, 4, 5), exit 1 — the plaza is directly above you. DDP is also a five-minute walk from Dongdaemun Station (Lines 1, 4). The projection surface faces the plaza side, so follow the crowd rather than the building entrance; you do not go inside for this. Arrive by 19:30 for the opening sequence, or after 20:00 if you would rather catch a live set with the crowd already settled.
