The rear garden of Changdeokgung Palace — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — is the most intact traditional Korean garden in existence. Pavilions and ponds designed over 300 years sit inside a natural forest that covers the back half of the palace grounds. Entry is by guided tour only, timed to protect the space, and the combination of architecture, water, and old-growth trees is unlike anything else accessible in Seoul. Autumn booking fills weeks in advance.
