Gwanaksan in Gwanak-gu is Seoul's southern mountain — a 629-metre granite ridge whose profile is visible from much of the city and whose summit provides the best view of the southern Seoul metropolitan area from any accessible peak. The trail from Seoul National University's back gate through the Yeonji Valley to the summit takes about two and a half hours. The Seoul National University campus below the mountain is open to public visitors and the campus architecture from the 1970s-present and the museum collections give it a secondary destination within the same half-day circuit. The spring azalea colour on the Gwanaksan ridge in May is one of the most accessible Seoul mountain colour events.
