On Yeongdo Island's steep southern cliffs, this former Japanese-era neighborhood was forgotten after the fishing industry declined — which is exactly why it's worth visiting now. The wooden houses clinging to the hillside predate Korea's independence, and a coastal walking trail cut into the cliff face offers some of the most dramatic ocean views in the city without a single tour group. Locals call the trail 'haenyeo road' because women once walked it to reach diving spots. The village has just a handful of small cafes run by artists who relocated here precisely because it felt undiscovered. From Busan Station, take Bus 88 to Huinnyeoul stop; the walk down the stairs to the cliff trail takes about 10 minutes and requires comfortable shoes.
