Naksansa Temple on the coastal cliff at Yangyang sits above one of the East Sea's most celebrated sunrise views, where the rising sun clears the horizon over open water and the temple buildings are silhouetted against the morning sky. The temple's Uisangdae pavilion on the cliff edge is specifically designed for sea viewing. The approach through the temple precinct has the character of an active place of practice rather than a tourist site; the cliff walk between the pavilion and the Haesugwaneumsang statue overlooking the sea gives continuous water views. The adjacent Naksan Beach below the temple is one of the longest East Sea beaches and has a large backpacker and surfer community during summer months.
