A functioning Buddhist temple that has operated on this site since 794 CE, now surrounded by the glass towers of Samsung-dong and the COEX convention district. The contrast between the wooden temple halls and the high-rise skyline immediately behind them is visible from the main courtyard in a way that has no equivalent elsewhere in Seoul. The grounds are open to the public year-round; meditation programs for non-Koreans run on a regular schedule. The 23-metre Mireuk standing Buddha near the south gate faces directly toward the COEX Starfield Library.
