Chuncheon is ringed by lakes formed by post-war hydroelectric dams, and the cycling path around Uiam Lake is one of the most underrated urban rides in Korea — 12km of flat waterside trail with views of misty lake islands that look like ink-wash paintings on spring mornings. The path passes directly under the cliffs where cormorants nest and ends near the Dakgalbi Street, so a logical day combines morning cycling with the stir-fried spicy chicken dish that Chuncheon invented and still does best. Bike rentals are available at multiple points and the trail infrastructure is excellent year-round.
