The Dongdaemun Design Plaza designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and completed in 2014 is the most internationally recognised contemporary architecture in Korea — a fluid white aluminum-clad form of 85,000 square metres that occupies the site of the former Dongdaemun Baseball Stadium and Joseon-period military drill ground. The building is most dramatically experienced at night when the exterior cladding reflects the surrounding lights and the illuminated landscape plaza around the structure gives the most complete view of the building's complex geometry. The DDP design market, exhibitions, and the adjacent Dongdaemun wholesale fabric market give the area a sustained day-to-night activity cycle.
