Modeled on the Arc de Triomphe, this 1897 stone gate was built to symbolize Korea's sovereignty and is one of Seoul's most historically charged but undervisited monuments. The surrounding Seodaemun Independence Park has mature trees and a calm residential atmosphere. Free entry, open grounds. Dongnimmun Station Exit 4 puts you at the gate in 2 minutes.
