The residential streets around Garak Market hold a concentration of small Korean restaurants that operate primarily for the market workers and the local residential population of Songpa-gu's less-visited southern districts. The food — hearty, unpretentious, priced for workers rather than visitors — includes sundae soup, pork bone stew, and Korean-style Chinese food alongside the standard lunch counter operations. The area operates on a different schedule to most Seoul food districts: busy from 5 a.m. for the market workers, quiet by mid-afternoon. The neighbourhood has none of the designed hospitality infrastructure that characterises the tourist-facing Songpa zones to the north.
