Several natural mineral springs on the lower slopes of Gwanaksan have been in continuous use by local residents for decades. The most-visited ones see a steady flow of elderly neighbourhood residents who hike the short access trails each morning with empty bottles to fill at the source. The water quality is tested regularly by the district; the mineral content varies by spring. The activity around the springs — morning hikers, neighbourhood conversation, the rhythm of the daily ritual — is a self-contained slice of the mountain's residential function that operates entirely separately from the main recreation trails.
