Haebangchon Rooftop Village (해방촌 옥상 마을)

Haebangchon sits on the hillside above Itaewon and Noksapyeong with a grid of steep alley streets that have largely resisted commercial development. The rooftop terraces of the residential buildings give wide views over the Namsan foothills and the Han River to the south. A small community of independent creatives — illustrators, musicians, small-batch producers — operate out of converted ground-floor units with minimal signage. The neighbourhood functions on foot only; cars cannot access most of the upper streets.
