The neighborhood on the hillside above Noksapyeong station was settled by refugees and displaced people after the Korean War and has maintained an independent, scrappy character ever since. Foreign residents, artists, and longtime Korean families share the steep streets. The main alley — Sinheung-ro — has independent bars, cafés, and restaurants operating from buildings that haven't been renovated in decades. The hill views over Itaewon and the Han River are among the best in the area.
