The neighbourhood surrounding Kyung Hee University in northeastern Dongdaemun-gu, with one of Seoul's most intact university-town atmospheres. The streets between the university gate and Hoegi subway station are dense with cheap restaurants, used bookshops, small live music venues, and bars that have served students for decades. The Kyung Hee campus itself — Gothic stonework, manicured lawns, a concert hall — is freely accessible and worth walking through. The 호이호이 pajeon-and-makgeolli alley one street east of the main gate is a student institution. Less self-consciously hip than Hongdae; more genuinely local.
