The alleys immediately north and east of Hongdae station hold the highest concentration of commissioned murals and independent street art in Seoul. The best pieces are on walls that are easily missed — side walls of multi-unit buildings, transformer boxes, the undersides of staircases. The work turns over regularly as new artists get permission to repaint existing pieces. Walking the circuit without a map and finding things by accident is the correct approach. Most of the art is at its best in the late afternoon light.
