Jagalchi Fish Market
Korea's largest seafood market is famous enough that most visitors arrive, photograph the tanks, buy hwe (raw fish) on the upper floor, and leave. What gets overlooked is the outdoor ajumma section stretching along the waterfront where women vendors — jagalchi ajeossi is a misnomer, they're almost all women — have been working the same spots for decades. These stalls sell live octopus, sea squirts (meongge), and spiky sea urchins (성게) at prices roughly 40% lower than the indoor hall. For eating, skip the tourist-facing restaurants and instead ask vendors to direct you to the pojangmacha tents visible from the dock, where soju and raw shellfish are served to fishermen finishing their morning work. The entire outdoor section closes by 3pm on most days.
