The main campus of Korea University in Seongbuk-gu was built in a distinctive collegiate Gothic style using dark granite, and the central quad — the Aegineung building, the central library, and the campus green — reads as a complete architectural composition that is unlike any other university precinct in Seoul. The campus is open to public visitors and the grounds are planted with mature trees. The Dongbak grove and the small mountain ridge behind the main buildings are accessible on foot and give a quieter extension to the campus circuit. The area around Anam station below the campus has a dense concentration of traditional university district restaurants and bars.
