The low-rise residential grid behind the main Mangwon commercial strip is as close as inner Seoul gets to a neighbourhood that still looks like it did in the 1990s. Independent repair shops, small family-run restaurants, and corner stores occupy the ground floor of three- and four-storey walkups. Some of the best dakgalbi and seafood jjigae in the area is priced for the people who live here, not for visitors.
