Mapo Oil Tank Culture Park (문화비축기지)

📍 Jeungsan-ro 87, Mapo-gu, Seoul

Five former oil storage tanks that held Seoul's emergency petroleum reserves from the 1970s until 2000 have been converted into a public cultural complex with exhibition halls, an open-air performance area, and a community café. The industrial architecture of the tanks — circular, buried into the hillside, connected by steel catwalks — is unlike anything else in the city. The site operated in classified secrecy for thirty years and most long-term Seoul residents discovered its existence only after it opened in 2017. The surrounding park trails connect to Maemulsan forest above.
