The largest museum in Korea, housed in a sweeping modernist building in Yongsan Family Park. Six permanent galleries cover the full arc of Korean history from prehistoric stone tools through the Joseon period — the highlight is Gallery 1's towering 10-metre stone pagoda from Goryeo and the Gold Crown from the Silla kingdom. Admission is free. The second floor café has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Namsan. Tuesday to Friday evening openings until 9pm make this a good rainy-day or off-hours option. The museum lake outside is a calm walking circuit worth combining with the adjacent Yongsan Family Park.
