National Theater of Korea

📍 59 Jangyungbaegui-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul

Korea's premier national performing arts venue, set into the wooded slopes of Namsan with a view across central Seoul. The Haeoreum Grand Theater seats 1,563 and presents the full range of Korean traditional and contemporary performance — changgeuk (Korean opera), dance, orchestral, and drama. Three additional stages host smaller productions. The outdoor Haneul Stage on the upper terrace runs free performances in summer with the city skyline as backdrop — one of Seoul's most atmospheric event spaces. The walk up from Chungmuro subway through Namsan Park adds 20 minutes each way and passes through quiet forest.
