Hwanseon Cave in Samcheok is the largest limestone cave in Korea open to the public — the main chamber is 100 metres high with a span that creates its own internal weather system, producing mist and condensation on the cave ceiling. The cave formation includes stalactites, stalagmites, and flowstone deposits across a 6.2-kilometre explored length. The accessible visitor route covers about 1.6 kilometres on formed paths through the most dramatic sections. The entrance is at altitude on the Daedeoksan ridge and the access road provides views over the Samcheok valley below. The cave temperature holds at 9°C year-round.
