The streets immediately behind the COEX tower block hold a compact cluster of traditional Korean rice wine bars that operate primarily for the office workers and convention centre staff who fill the district during the week. The atmosphere is more neighbourhood pojangmacha than tourist attraction — plastic tables, house-fermented makgeolli, seasonal pajeon. Most open around 5 p.m. and close when the last table is cleared. The contrast with the corporate architecture one street over is sharp enough to feel like a different city.
