The French expatriate community settled in the neighborhood near Banpo-dong in the 1980s, and the French school and community infrastructure are still there. The residential streets have a distinctly different pace — lower density, tree-lined, with French bakeries, wine bars, and bistros operating alongside Korean restaurants that have been here since before the expat community arrived. One of the few neighborhoods in Seoul where you can have a genuinely slow afternoon without going to a tourist area.
