Yeongrang Lake in Sokcho is a coastal lagoon separated from the East Sea by a narrow barrier beach, with a 7.8-kilometre circuit path around the lake that gives continuous water views and the Seoraksan ridge visible to the west across the flat lowland. The early morning walk before 8 a.m. catches the lake with mist on the water surface and the mountain reflection at its clearest. The lake is home to black swans and the morning bird activity includes herons and egrets from the adjacent reed bed areas. The Yeongrang Lake pavilion at the northern end of the lake gives the most complete view of the water and mountain combination that defines the Sokcho landscape.
