Sungnyemun Gate (Namdaemun)

📍 40 Sejong-daero, Jung-gu, Seoul

The Great South Gate of the Joseon-era city wall, built in 1398 and Korea's National Treasure No. 1. Rebuilt after the 2008 arson fire and reopened in 2013 with the wooden pavilion fully restored. The gate sits on a traffic island — walk the pedestrian crossing from Seoul Station Exit 5 for the best approach angle. Free to view, fenced for preservation.
