The Yangjae-dong approach to Maebongsan via the southern slope provides one of the shorter mountain access routes in Gangnam — the trailhead is within fifteen minutes walk of Yangjae station and the summit is reached in about thirty minutes. The trail passes through a dense mixed woodland that supports a variety of woodland birds, making it a reliable birding location on spring and autumn mornings. The summit gives views toward the Gwanaksan ridge to the south and the Gangnam expressway to the north. The IT Valley and KOTRA complex below the mountain give the surroundings an unusual technology-corridor-meets-urban-forest quality.
