Seoul is a shopping paradise. There are various shopping methods from Myeongdong to Dongdaemun, traditional markets, and large shopping malls.
Myeongdong
Seoul’s largest shopping street. Cosmetics (Olive Young, Innisfree, Etude, etc.), clothing, miscellaneous goods. Many tourists and prices are somewhat high. Many staff members distribute free cosmetic samples on the street.
Dongdaemun (Around DDP)
Wholesale and retail fashion complex. Wholesale peak hours are 2-5 AM. Open late 11 PM to early morning. Can purchase large quantities of affordable latest clothing.
Olive Young
Korea’s #1 drugstore. Complete collection of K-beauty products. Available everywhere nationwide. Tax-free service for foreign tourists partially available.
Traditional Markets
Gwangjang Market (Jongno 4-ga): Food items like bindaetteok, “drug-like” kimbap, sundae + fabric and hanbok shopping. Namdaemun Market: Wholesale market for clothing, miscellaneous goods, and food. Some shops open early in the morning and close during the day.
Duty-Free Shops
In-city duty-free shops: Lotte, Shinsegae, Hyundai, etc. Pick up at Incheon Airport before departure. Internet duty-free shops are often cheaper. Requirements: Scheduled to depart, passport needed.
Large Shopping Malls & Department Stores
The Hyundai Seoul (Yeouido): Seoul’s hottest shopping mall these days. Good atmosphere with natural lighting and plant-filled interior. Pop-up stores frequently open and high-level F&B. 5-minute walk from Yeouido Station.
Timesquare (Yeongdeungpo): Multi-complex from B2 to 8F. Fashion, electronics, large mart (E-mart), CGV, restaurants all in one place. 5-minute walk from Yeongdeungpo Station.
Coex Mall (Samseong Station): Large underground shopping mall. Free admission to Starfield Library. Fashion, food, bookstore. Direct connection to Samseong Station.
Lotte World Mall (Jamsil): Connected to Lotte Tower 123-story building. Luxury brands, fashion, F&B gathered. Direct connection to Jamsil Station.
I’Park Mall (Yongsan): Direct connection to Yongsan Station. Electronics (Electronics Land), fashion, CGV. Good for comparing and purchasing electronic devices.
Starfield (Hanam, Goyang, Suwon): Large multi-complex shopping malls outside Seoul. Includes IKEA, sports, restaurants. Shuttle bus service available.
