Seoul Culture Differences and Etiquette

Cultural Differences and Etiquette to Know in Seoul

Subway and Bus
Speaking loudly or watching videos without earphones is considered rude. Priority seats (mainly pink or blue seats) for the elderly and weak are judged if young and healthy people sit in them. Leaving food at restaurants is not a major issue, but leaving a large amount without eating the food you ordered can be considered impolite. It is polite to ask for permission before taking photos.

Streets and Public Places
Seoul is very quiet in public places. If you laugh loudly or have conversations in the subway, you may receive stares. It is natural to eat street food while standing. On escalators, you stand on the left.
