One of the world's most iconic summer festivals, held annually on Daecheon Beach. Visitors dive into mineral-rich mud pools, enjoy water slides, live music, and beach performances. Open to all nationalities — a must-experience for any summer trip to Korea.
Every summer, Daecheon Beach in Boryeong transforms into one of Korea’s most celebrated festival grounds. The Boryeong Mud Festival draws hundreds of thousands of visitors from across Korea and around the world, offering an experience unlike anything else on the peninsula.
The mud itself is the draw — harvested from the Boryeong mudflats and long prized for its mineral content, it’s been used in cosmetics and skin care for decades. At the festival, it becomes the centrepiece of a massive outdoor playground: mud pools, mud slides, mud wrestling arenas, and a mud prison where friends can toss each other in.
Beyond the mud, the festival runs a full schedule of live music, K-pop performances, fireworks, and water activities along the beach. After dark, the stage comes alive with headline acts and the beach fills up with festival-goers cooling off in the sea.
Getting there is straightforward from Seoul — take a KTX or express bus to Daecheon, roughly two hours from the capital. Entry bracelets are available on-site, and the festival grounds are open to anyone who shows up.
If you’re in Korea in late July or early August, this is the one not to miss.
