The side streets branching off the main Garosu-gil strip — particularly the Sero-su-gil lane running parallel — retained more independent character after the main boulevard went upscale. Independent furniture designers, small atelier clothing brands, and specialty food shops operate from the narrower lanes at lower rents. The contrast between the brand flagships on the main road and the independent makers one block over tells the story of Sinsa-dong's last decade better than any guide could.
