제천 청풍문화유산단지
When Chungju Dam flooded the valley in 1985, the government relocated dozens of historic buildings from submerged villages to high ground above the waterline. The result is Cheongpung Cultural Heritage Complex — an accidental open-air museum of Joseon-era architecture transplanted to an overlook above Chungju Lake. The setting is genuinely dramatic: traditional pavilions and gate structures positioned with the reservoir stretching out below them. Because the relocation was a preservation emergency rather than a tourism project, the curation is sparse and the crowds are thin. The Hanhyeolle Pavilion was originally a Goryeo-era structure. The view at sunset is one of the better ones in the province.
