Detailed Description of COS PRO
COS PRO (Coding Specialist Professional) is a private IT certification registered by YBM, designed to assess procedural programming skills using languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, and Python. The test is mainly taken by college students, job seekers, and non-CS majors in their 20s and 30s, providing a way to verify practical coding ability applicable to real-world IT roles. The exam is conducted entirely through a CBT (Computer-Based Test) system and includes 10 questions consisting of multiple-choice and short-answer items, to be completed in 50 minutes (Level 2/3) or 90 minutes (Level 1). Results are delivered immediately after the exam, with scores calculated on a 1,000-point scale, where 600 points or more is required to pass any level. The exam fees are KRW 45,000 for Level 1, KRW 35,000 for Level 2, and KRW 30,000 for Level 3, with an additional KRW 2,000 issuance fee, totaling approximately KRW 32,000–47,000. The results include both overall scores and skill-specific performance ratios, helping candidates identify weaknesses and plan further learning. Depending on the level, evaluations include requirements analysis, algorithm design, accurate implementation, debugging, and optimization skills, along with understanding of class structure (Java), data structures, and efficient coding logic. COS PRO scores are used in universities, training academies, and even corporate recruitment, including internal evaluations and team-based testing programs. According to YBM’s announcements, regular exam sessions occur throughout the year, with over 60–70 scheduled rounds annually from January to December. As a result, COS PRO is gaining credibility as a tool for validating practical programming abilities and is increasingly adopted in Korea’s IT education and employment pipelines.
Editor’s Comment
COS PRO is one of the few private certifications that objectively measures real coding ability through procedural programming tasks, rather than theoretical or syntax-focused questions. Its clearly structured level-based framework and instant scoring system enhance learning efficiency, especially for beginners and non-majors. While Level 1 demands more rigorous preparation with longer duration and complex logic, it serves as a strong validation of hands-on skill. Its growing use in academia and corporate hiring demonstrates its practical value. For IT job seekers or those transitioning into development roles, COS PRO is emerging as a popular and recognized credential.

From international headlines about high test scores to Netflix dramas depicting sleepless students, the phenomenon known as “education fever” (교육열) is central to Korea’s identity. This deep cultural emphasis on learning has propelled Korea from poverty after the Korean War…
South Korea’s Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) has recently advised domestic asset management firms to refrain from excessively including cryptocurrency-related stocks, such as Coinbase and MicroStrategy, in their exchange-traded fund (ETF) portfolios. This guidance, which was delivered verbally to ETF managers earlier this month, reflects the FSS’s concern over the growing weight of virtual asset-linked equities…
