Bukhansan National Park South Entrance (북한산 남측 등산로)

The southern access to Bukhansan National Park is reachable by subway — Gupabal or Bukhansan Uiryeong station — which makes it possible to do a serious mountain hike and be back in central Seoul within a day. The main Baegundae peak trail gains 800 meters and takes 4-5 hours return, passing through granite boulder fields and forested ridges with views across the city. Weekday mornings the trails are used mainly by retirees who've been climbing the same routes for decades.
