The former presidential residence opened to the public in May 2022 after seventy-four years of restricted access. The grounds contain the main Blue House buildings, a traditional Korean garden, and forest trails on the southern slope of Bugaksan that were never previously accessible. Weekday morning visits before 10 a.m. are significantly quieter than weekends. The combination of the architecture, the old-growth trees, and the Bugaksan ridge directly above creates a landscape that is unlike anything else open to the public in central Seoul. Entry is free; online reservation is recommended but walk-in entry is often available on weekday mornings.
