The main transport interchange for eastern Seoul and a neighbourhood with one of the city's most layered histories — the area around Cheongnyangni station served as Seoul's largest red-light district for decades before partial clearance in the 2000s. The remaining old market streets directly south of the station sell wholesale produce, cheap clothes, and street food in a chaotic but compelling environment. The overground KTX and intercity rail terminal connects here to the rest of Korea; the intersection of seven subway and rail lines makes it one of the busiest commuter nodes in the city. The night market running until 3am serves rail workers and early market vendors.
