Cheongnyangni station is one of Seoul's major eastern transit hubs and the surrounding commercial streets have evolved a dense night food market that operates primarily for the commuter population and the student community from the surrounding university district. The seafood and produce market along the eastern approach is one of the largest informal outdoor food markets in the city, running until late evening on most nights. The old Cheongnyangni red-light district adjacent to the market has been largely cleared; what remains is a functional food and retail zone that operates on its own schedule. The 588 Soju alleys nearby still draw a local crowd on weeknights.
