The most intense educational district on Earth — a 10-block area where over 2,000 private tutoring academies (hagwon) are stacked in every building, running classes from 9am until 10pm. A cultural phenomenon: entire apartment complexes were built in this neighbourhood so parents could live walking distance from the academies. On weekday evenings, the streets fill with middle and high school students moving between back-to-back classes. There is nothing to buy or see here in the tourist sense, but the atmosphere — equal parts ambition, exhaustion, and intensity — is unlike anything outside Korea. A genuine window into the Korean education system that drives much of the country's global output.
