Eunma Apartment Complex Commercial Zone (은마아파트 상가)

The commercial podium running along the base of the Eunma apartment complex in Daechi-dong has operated as a local market street since the 1980s, when the towers above it were built. The shops — fresh produce, banchan, dry goods, small restaurants — serve the dense residential population of one of Gangnam's most established apartment districts. The contrast with the glossy retail of the nearby Daechi Expressway shopping zone is extreme. The covered arcade sections running between the tower blocks are particularly functional and retain a character that predates the commercial redesign of the surrounding Gangnam streets.
