Gamaksan Mountain Trail

📍 Gamak-dong, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do

At 469 meters, Gamaksan is modest by Korean standards but sits in a militarily sensitive zone that kept it sealed to the public for decades — the trails only fully opened in the 2010s. That enforced closure preserved something rare: forest that has not been heavily foot-trafficked. The ridge trail to the summit passes through old-growth oak and pine, and on a clear day the view north into the DMZ buffer zone is unobstructed and arresting. You will likely share the trail only with locals from Munsan and the occasional Korean hiker from Seoul. No English signage, no gear rental shops — just bring water and download offline maps before you go.
