Cheongpyeong Lake & Suspension Bridge

📍 Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do

While most visitors to Gapyeong funnel directly onto the Nami Island ferry, the lake itself — formed by Cheongpyeong Dam in the 1940s — has a quieter circuit worth a half day. A pedestrian suspension bridge crosses the narrows near Cheongpyeong station and leads to a riverside walking path that hugs the southern shore through pine forest. In autumn the reflection of the hills in the still lake water is the kind of scene that makes you stop walking. Pension guesthouses line the north shore and cater almost exclusively to Korean couples and families — English is rarely spoken, menus are Korean only, and the atmosphere is entirely local. Kayak and SUP rental is available at several points along the shore.
