Gijang-gun along the northern Busan coast holds the highest concentration of sea cucumber (meongge) and freshwater eel (jangeo) production in Korea, with the Gijang Market and the coastal villages east of the county town holding specialist vendors selling directly from the growing and smoking operations. The sea cucumber eaten raw with a wasabi-soy dressing is a Gijang specialty that is significantly less accessible in Seoul; the smoked eel from the char-grill restaurants along the coast road is among the best in Korea. The Gijang coastal road north from the town passes through some of the most intact cliff and cove coastline on the Busan periphery.
