The area immediately surrounding the public playground in Hongdae — historically the open-air stage where buskers, amateur artists, and performance crews gathered before the area's commercial transformation — still functions as the most concentrated zone of street performance and spontaneous creative activity in the neighbourhood. The weekend evenings from around 7 p.m. bring an unpredictable mix of musicians, acrobats, and impromptu groups that operate independently of the club and bar economy in the blocks nearby. The surrounding streets connecting the playground to Hongik University's main gate hold the densest concentration of live music venues in Korea.
